The Ratty opened for business for the first time this decade (!) earlier tonight, and our intrepid reporter went to survey the scene. President Ruth Simmons was named a member of the council for the National Museum of African American History and Culture this week. The Washington museum will be completed in 2015 as the 19th museum of the Smithsonian Institution. Simmons joins 21 other business, art and academic leaders on the council, which she will remain a member of until the museum opens.
