What To Do Tonight: 2/4

Party for Haiti

Blue (523 Water St) 10:00 pm – 1:00 am, $5

Absolutely no chance DJ Pauly D will be there, but nothing takes the sting off of remembering what you did last night like knowing you did it for a good cause! Proceeds go to the Israeli Humanitarian Relief Effort in Haiti, so drink up in the name of philanthropy!

“Crazy Heart”

Avon Theater, 6:30 and 8:50

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been dying to see this ever since the Oscar nominations were announced (plus, I’ve got a big ole girl crush on Maggie Gyllenhaal and she’s supposed to be excellent).

The Wooster Group

Metcalf Auditorium at the Chase Center (N. Main and College), 7:30

The Wooster Group is a visiting “multimedia theater troupe,” and I’m willing to trek part-way down The Hill simply to find out what that means. Knowledge is power, people.

Cup o’ (Pro)Jo

Waterfire

Kim Perley / Herald

Here’s the latest installment of your daily dose of Projo news.

A North Kingston man was arrested after interfering with tow truck operators who attempted to remove his car from a half-frozen pond, apparently after becoming concerned that the efforts would damage the vehicle that he valued enough to drive into the pond “after watching another motorist do the same thing.”

Sir Salman Rushdie, author of such acclaimed novels as “The Satanic Verses,” is slated to speak at Brown on February 16th.  Also known for a tricky run-in with a fatwa and a habit of being linked to attractive ladies, Rushdie’s appearance is sure not to disappoint.

A special WaterFire showing is set to happen tonight for a lucky group of travel industry insiders. Nice try, WaterFire organizers, but your stealthy lack of publicity and attempt to turn our favorite Providence spectacle into an exclusive affair won’t work this time.  See you at 8:15.

Time-waster of the day, 2/4/10

Not enough opportunities to view moody hipsters brooding on the Main Green at Brown? Check out this site, existing solely because because hipsters tend to spend a lot of time just sitting around and being morose. At the same time, you can also ponder why hipsters seem to exist in worlds with crazy, modern architecture surrounding them.

Ratty vs. V-Dub: 2/4/10

Lunch: V-Dub

Both eateries are making you sandwiches today, just in case the deli bars and panini presses are a little too daunting. It’s a personal choice whether you want your bread stuffed with roast beef or ham and cheese, but as long as someone else is constructing your sandwich, might as well go with ingredients you can’t find in your everyday sandwich bar: roast beef and french bread.

Dinner: Ratty

Punxsutawney Phil may have just seen his shadow, but the Ratty is ready to take us back to another uniqely American holiday with its Thanksgiving-themed dinner, although this holiday is a little more concerned with eating animals than using them as weather oracles.
