Cup o’ (Pro)Jo: April 5, 2010

Big news for Red Sox fans–the team beat its arch-rival, the New York Yankes, in the first game of the season Sunday night.  Despite a slow start, the Sox came from behind to win the game 9-7.  And, if the big win has left you with a desire to test your knowledge of the famous New York-Boston rivalry, check out the Projo’s quiz.

The Warwick Mall is working to reopen after sustaining unprecedented damage in the wake of recent flooding.  According to the Projo, the deluge “left a waterline inside the mall that averaged about 22 inches, plus an inch or two of mud on the floors.”  Yikes!

Disaster relief is still ongoing as FEMA has opened two disaster centers in Warwick and Cranston to operate seven days a week for the time being.  The Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency has also opened a disaster center in Cranston. National Grid, RI’s electricity provider, also announced that over 1000 people were without power as a result of the flooding as of Sunday evening. And because of the extensive flooding here in Rhode Island after a nasty bout of rainstorms, taxpayers’ deadline to file their federal income tax returns has been moved to May 11.
