What is NBC’s obsession with Rhode Island?
During the Weekend Update portion of SNL last night, Seth Myers made a joke about the motion to change Lil’ Rhody’s name. He stated that the lack of name change would be irrelevant and that people would still refer to the state as “Connecticut’s foreskin.” Zinger!
Oddly enough, SNL wasn’t the only NBC show to mock The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations this week.
On this past Thursday’s episode of 30 Rock, representative Regina Bookman (Queen Latifah), from Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District (the district that houses all of us “spoiled jags”) gets a new challenger in her reelection bid for congress from the Independent Steve Austin (played by Mad Men’s John Slattery). Austin’s political views which seem to consist of government being run by “dwarves” working in “tiny buildings” eating “pizza bagels” (get it?- small government- Ha) and a return to the literal infancy of our nation as a means of constitutional purism, would put most Tea Partiers to shame. Here are his hilarious campaign ads:
