No one was harmed Tuesday when a roof suddenly buckled in over a vacant building in Pawtucket from heavy snow. The building, former Edmond Oil Company property, now has a damaged front wall which will soon be torn down. Until then, Main Street will remain closed.

Rhode Island’s only Coptic Orthodox Church initiated a three day fast for peace in Egypt last Monday. Rev. Marcos Girgis said he is concerned for Christians who have been taking part in the protests in Egypt. He is also worried about the prospect of the “very militant” Muslim Brotherhood taking control of the country. Girgis said Christians in Egypt have been unhappy all year, and now he fears for their safety.

URI professor John K. Dunn will not be teaching this semester because of “three felony counts of obtaining money under false pretenses in connection with an alleged mortgage-fraud scheme.” Because Dunn has not yet been found guilty, he will remain on payroll but with an “alternate work assignment,” said URI spokesperson Linda Acciardo on Tuesday.
