Make the Trend Your Own: The Original

I’m from Texas, so I’m in a unique position to help you westernize without commercializing. Did you know that people who compete in western showmanship competitions (on horses!) actually dress like the models in Ralph Lauren’s Spring campaign? Check out these stores for authentic westernwear, and while you’re at it try to find a horse and wear some of your purchases riding—it will lend a touch of authenticity to your look.

Check out this Black Rainbow Glitz Blouse from Diamonds in the Rough by Michelle, $140.

If you go to the Ralph Lauren Collection and scroll through the runway images you’ll see tons of models wearing fringed leather jackets just like this, except way more expensive! This boar suede leather jacket with beaded fringe and nappa hand lacing from Gray Horse Trading Company.

Cavenders is the ultimate western-wear emporium where I’m from. There’s a Cavenders in every important Texas city, and also in lots of tiny cities. Cavenders would be a great place to accessorize your urban cowboy look or purchase just a touch of cowboy if you feel intimidated by the full-on trendy look. Check out the belt buckle and the floral boots. Floral patterns are absolutely in this spring–double trend whammy!
