Splurge, Steal or Something Original: Bug Infestation

The hottest thing in the world of accessories this spring will be bugs. Get ready to don your butterflies, your beetles, your dragonflies, and any other insect in your drawers. Not only are they great conversation pieces, but they invoke something rough and gritty and are thus the perfect addition to a girly outfit. Read on! Images are only thumbnails, and look a bit more spectacular on the product pages.

Something Original
First suggestion: invest in a little Kenneth Jay Lane. As of the most renowned costume jewelry designers in the world, Lane makes  pieces which will undoubtedly become collectors’ editions. These pieces are timeless and can be reused for the rest of your life, no matter the season. Check out these brooches, about $45-60, from QVC. Neiman Marcus also has some pretty pins by Jay Strongwater, but the KJL name will always be fashion legend.

Second: check out this ‘Bee in the Jungle’ bag, $200, by Etsy seller peacocktaco. It’s a gorgeous bag, featuring insect print, Swarovski crystals, and fine fabrics with an element of handmade design unparalleled in most commercial designs. This seller also has incredible sea-themed jewelry.
Third: continue to utilize Etsy. I cannot overemphasize what an amazing resource Etsy is, especially because it’s so much easier to navigate than eBay. Search suggestions: HANDMADE > Search by insect, so type in “ant” or “beetle” or “spider” . VINTAGE > Search “insect jewelry” or “butterfly dress” or by insect.
