Harnessing fan passion: A look inside global sports and entertainment marketing

Derek Aframe ’96, Senior Vice President at Octagon Worldwide, a sponsorship consulting and athlete representation practice, spoke to students last week about his work in sports business. Aframe, who graduated with a dual degree in American History and English Literature from Brown and served as an assistant coach for the men’s soccer program, currently acts as the President of the Brown Men’s Soccer fundraising organization. He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School, and in his eight years at Octagon has developed marketing strategies and negotiated with nearly every major domestic and international sports property on behalf of clients. He currently leads Octagon’s MasterCard and Cisco global account teams.  Last week’s talk, which was highly interactive and featured a question and answer session and a marketing proposal simulation, was sponsored by the Brown Sports Business club, the Swearer Center, and the Watson Institute.
