Love, Hate, Concerts & Nudity: BlogDH’s 10 most read posts in 2011

Happy New Year!  To bid adieu to the year that was, we are recapping the most read BlogDailyHerald articles of 2011:

10: Students who do cool things: The igloo on the Main Green

Remember Snowpocalypse 2011?  This crew of (then) Sophomores responded to the silly amount of snow by constructing and sleeping in an igloo on the Main Green.

9: Carrie Bradshaw, Brown’s latest fictional alum

Candace Bushnell, author of Sex and the City, released Summer and the City: A Carrie Diaries Novel as part of her young adult series. In the book, which follows the Sex and the City characters as teenagers, Bushnell revealed that the series’ lead mare character spent her college years at Brown!

8: BREAKING: Rest of the Spring Weekend Line-up Announced

After BlogDH broke the news that Diddy and TV on the Radio would be the two headlining acts for Spring Weekend ’11, we came back a week later with the rest of the line-up.  For those of you who were either not here (froshies) or casually too drunk to actually remember any of the concerts, here’s a brief rundown of the supporting acts: Das Racist was Das Wasted, Lee Fields wore a fantastic green suit, Rebirth got the ice rink dancing, Lissy Trullie didn’t even show up, and Nico Jaar ’12 was great for the 17 people who actually got there early enough.

7. Who should the BCA book for Fall Concert 2011?

This summer, the BCA reached out to BlogDH about hosting a poll to see who students wanted to see for this year’s Fall Concert.  While the results had little to no bearing on who actually came, it was a good step towards getting the BCA to go after the artists students actually want.

6. What not to do 24 hours before early decisions come out

Our guide to staying (relatively) sane while waiting for early decisions to be released.  You’ve gotta figure most of the views on this post came from potential prefrosh frantically attempting to chill the fuck out.  Yay Brown!

5. Students who do cool things: Pokémon Brown University

Brown University Pokémon: the best thing since pants.  Also from this year, Ruth looking concerned for a Pikachu (why hasn’t anyone made this into a meme yet?).

Much to the BCA’s chagrin, Diddy tweeted that he would be coming for Spring Weekend weeks in advance of when the BCA was planning to announce the headliner.  This tweet was slightly more exciting than the actual brutal, 2 hour long Diddyfest that took place in Meehan during Spring Weekend last year.  At least we got him to wear white!

3.  Jabberwock Chris Unseth ’11.5 proposes to Sarah Gassel ’11.5 at archsing

This was hands down the most adorable thing we saw this year.  If you haven’t seen the video yet, there is something wrong with you.

2.  Brown bares all in new subreddit: Our Q&A with the site’s moderator

BrownBares was definitely the most interesting thing that sprang up during finals this year.  With over 100 photos of our classmates in various forms of undress, the subreddit is a wonderful addition to online life at Brown and still going strong.  We kinda wanna know if the dude ended up telling his mom about it.

1. Crusaders for traditional marriage take over Waterman

Well, this was a really crazy day.  The “Crusaders for Traditional Marriage” marched onto campus and caused quite the uproar.  Who would have thought that a group of men in kilts handing out pamphlets entitled “Defending a Higher Law: Why We Must Resist Same-Sex ‘Marriage’ and the Homosexual Movement” would be poorly received at Brown?  Let’s be real: bagpipes are SOOOO gay.

Enjoy your next month of holiday and here’s to hoping 2012 is as exciting as 2011!
