Sometime last week, we realized that, like the readers of the Des Moines Register, our viewers were patiently waiting for a presidential endorsement. Today, we are proud to announce that we have opted to endorse Matt Romney for president.
For those of you to whom Mr. Romney’s name seems strange or foreign, no, we didn’t misspell the name of a certain Massachusetts governor. And no, we’re not talking about that governor’s son, either. Mr. Romney is an independent voice who launched his campaign this summer in response to the political wasteland he saw in Washington. In the last few weeks, he has gained incredible momentum by mobilizing his supporters through social media. Unlike the political fat cats he deplores, Mr. Romney is a regular dude who, according to his mission statement, “loves to cut taxes and part.y.”
Like the beltway insiders he often bemoans, Mr. Romney has an opinion on just about everything, but rather than publishing five point plans or boring platform summaries, he posts nuggets of stream-of-consciousness-style wisdom five to ten times a day on his Facebook page. Want to get to know the real Mr. Romney? Just take a look at some of his more recent posts:
Even a cursory glance at Mr. Romney’s political positions should illustrate what a true visionary he is. Romney is a young, hot-blooded fifty-something-year-old who is neither a slave to corporate America nor the bastion of teachers union. He is the everyman — a do-er, not a thinker. And, with our endorsement, we hope he can catapult himself to the highest office in the land.
