BlogWeeklyJamz: “Pushing the dark away”

Jam of the Week – Girl Talk – All Day (Chapter 11)
Hurricane Sandy was really mean to my beloved New York City this week, so I think the city deserves some recognition for being totally weird and resilient and diverse and awesome. In this badass feature-length music video “Girl Walk // All Day,” a group of dancers shake it from the Financial District to Central Park all while accompanied by the entirety of Girl Talk’s album “All Day.” Chapter 11 is above, but you should watch the whole thing.

PBR&B – Frank Ocean – Scared of Beautiful (Demo)
If you haven’t listened to Frank Ocean yet — YOU REALLY SHOULD. If you’ve listened to Frank Ocean and you don’t like him, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU? Everyone one of his songs is perfect: Exhibit A + Exhibit B + Exhibit C. Here’s a new demo from my future husband.

Pop – Madeon – The City
Madeon is one of those people who inherently makes you feel bad about yourself. He started making music at 11 and his “Pop Culture” remix on YouTube got 6 million views in only a few days. You are between the ages 18-22 and you have never accomplished that much. Also, Madeon talks about pushing the dark away—given our recent confusion surrounding the darkness that comes with falling back, we’re in complete agreement.

Hip-Hop – Angel Haze – Cleaning Out My Closet
This song is reallyyyyyyyyyyy intense and might help end rape culture but it’s not a big deal or anything.

Throwback – Gorillaz – DARE
I don’t know if anyone has picked up on it yet, but Noodle is my motherfucking style icon.

Indie – PAPA – Put Me To Work
This has a lil hook and the drummer is the drummer from the band Girls.

Middle School Pop Punk BangerGreen Day – Basket Case
I feel kind of bad putting this song in the MSPPB category because I believe to this day that “Dookie” is one of the best albums ever.

Electronic – Cashmere Cat – Mirror Maru
This song is named after a MEME. I love it love love it. But also I really like how this song is so bizarre and has modulated frog croaking but it also pretty melodic.
