BlogWeeklyJamz: “Cause I hate the ocean, theme parks and airplanes”

Electronic – Kate Boy – Northern Lights
Admittedly more Electro-Pop than Electronic, but Kate Boy rocks in the general tradition of Purity Ring and The Knife. They’re also from Sweden and we all know they put something in the water in Sweden. (Ed.- evidence).

Throwback – Talking Heads – Naive (This Must Be the Place)
If you don’t like this song, I hate you and we’re not friends anymore. Shoutout to my mom and stepmom for my extensive knowledge/love of this band. If you didn’t have a Talking Heads-peddling maternal figure, start now!

Indie – Free Electric – Electric Fever
It’s a standard stripped-down indie diddy, k? Cool.

Cover – Band of Horses – Georgia (Cee-Lo Green Cover)
Cee-Lo Green covered Band of Horses’ “No One’s Gonna Love You” so Band of Horses returned the favor, and music lovers everywhere rejoiced and made merry.

Sensitive Singer-Songwriter –  Ben Gibbard – Teardrop Windows
Aww the video is literally about how Ben Gibbard is too nice for his own good. What a little muffin! Clearly Ben will never top the best album ever created (aka Death Cab for Cutie’s “Transatlanticism“), but this is a cute reminder of why I loved him in the first place.

PBR&BBig Ranx – Life We Love
I feel like reggae is by definition PBR&B.

Jam of the Week – Flight Facilities – Clair De Lune
This song would be great behind an artsy suicide scene in a Wes Anderson film. And I applaud Flight Facilities for having such an amazing range style-wise, because their song “With You” is one of my favorite not-Daft-Punk-but-could-be-Daft-Punk songs.

Pop – Rihanna ft. Eminem – Numb
This is a single off Rihanna’s new album. The highlight is definitely Eminem’s brilliant use of onomatopoeia: “I’m the butt police, and I’m looking at your rear rear rear.” What a classy gentleman.

Middle School Pop Punk Banger – Motion City Soundtrack – Everything is Alright
I know everyone has homework but shhhhh listen to Motion City Soundtrack, it’ll all work out.

Hip-Hop – El Da Sensei – Bars and Boastin’
El Da Sensei was originally a member of the 90s Newark-based group Artifacts before he went solo. The early hip-hop vibe comes across in the best possible way on this track.
