Brown Shops Local! (and more “Bear Necessities”)

Whether you’re looking for some last minute gifts for family or friends, or just want the opportunity to explore Providence’s shopping hubs, Brown is sponsoring a “Brown Shops Local!” event tomorrow, December 6th that will help you accomplish both tasks. The event is being help to allow students to “cross items off [their] shopping list while supporting the local economy.”

From 4-8 p.m. tomorrow, trolleys will pick up and drop off students from George Street at Rhode Island Hall, and take them to their choice of one of four destinations: 1) Westminster Street; 2) South Main Street; 3) Wayland Square; and 4) Hope Street. (More details after the jump.)

Each destination hosts a unique list of awesome art galleries, retail stores, and restaurants offering deals to Brown students with their Brown IDs. With everything from food trucks, craft fairs, wine tastings, and even an outdoor movie screening, local businesses are really pulling out all the stops to encourage Providence locals and Brown students to explore all that the city has to offer. For more information, check out the University’s event page or RSVP to the event on Facebook.

Want to get in the Bruno spirit but are too lazy to get out of bed don’t have time to descend College Hill? Also make sure to check out this awesomely eclectic collection of alumni-made “Bear Necessities”—gifts ranging from postcards, to clothing, to jewelry—all created by esteemed Brunonians themselves.

So take a break from studying (do we even have to ask you twice?), grab some friends, and get shopping.
