Wednesday, February 19: 

Event: Writers or Missionaries? Reporting the Middle East

Join the GISP “Wiring the Middle East: Nonfiction Coverage and New Digital Frontiers” and Brown Middle East Studies for a conversation with Adam Shatz, Contributing Editor of London Review of Books. This event is free and open to the public.

Thursday, February 20:

Event: The Days Between
Time: 8:00 p.m.
Location: Granoff Center

Check out this new opera by Ben Kutner ’14, directed by Zach Rufa ’14. Can’t make it on Thursday? Don’t worry: there will be 3 other performances on Friday the 21st at 8p.m., and Saturday the 22nd at both 2p.m. and 8p.m. According to the event description, this original production, based loosely on the Arab Spring, “follows four national figures as they weather the power vacuum after their leader’s death – each attempting to ride out on top.”

Friday, February 21:

Event: ASaP Symposium: Arts and Healing
Time: Various throughout the day
Location: Granoff Center

This Friday, ASaP is hosting a series of events as a part of a multi-media symposium on holistic approaches that benefit people with Parkinson’s Disease and those on the Autism Spectrum. From film screenings, to panels, to lectures, to a master dance workshop with David Levanthal ’95, this special day is not to be missed. Event: The 31st Annual Fusion Dance Company Spring Show
Time: 8:00 p.m.
Location: Alumnae Hall

This Friday or Saturday, go see Fusion, the oldest student-run dance group at Brown, show off their hard work and talent. Buy tickets for $5 in JWW 10am-3pm, or for $7 at the door. Tickets are also available online.

Event: PW presents: The Pillowman
Time: 8:00 p.m.
Location: PW Upspace

This weekend, PW presents “The Pillowman,” the story of  “two rooms, two brothers, two detectives.” Directed by Andrew Ganem ’16 in a special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, the play will run 5 times this weekend: February 21, 23, 24 at 8:00 p.m., and February 22nd at 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

Event: Brown/RISD Stand-Up Presents: The Von Trapp Family Comics
Time: 8:00 p.m.
Location: Metcalf Auditorium

Don’t miss Brown/RISD Stand-Up as they put their own comical spin on the Sound of Music. Tickets are $1 at the door.

Event: Karin and the Improvs Presents: Upsilon, I Did it Again!
Time: 9:00 p.m.

Come check out this free comedy show from Karin and the Improvs, a Brown/RISD improv group.

Saturday, February 22:

Event: RISD Super Smash Bros Tournament 2014
Time: 7:00-10:00 p.m.
Location: RISD Auditorium

Come out to brawl and support a good cause at RISD’s Super Smash Bros Tournament this Saturday. It’s just $3 to participate (free to watch), and all funding goes to the RISD Alternative Spring Break (ASB) Youth Incarceration project, an organization that uses community service as a means to improve the lives of the less fortunate. Sign up is first come, first serve, and will begin at 6:30 p.m. Grand prizes for 1st-3rd place will be rewarded, and popcorn and soda will be provided!
