Does the impending sprint to the end of the semester have you feeling unusually serious? Do you just wish that there could be a little more humor in your life (besides BlogDH, obviously)? Well, you’re in luck. This Friday and Saturday, Brown will be hosting its second annual Comedy Conference in Granoff. So forget about that homework
you had no intention of doing anyway, and come laugh your ass off with some great comedians!
Friday’s lineup includes student performances at 7 p.m. from our very own Brown Stand-Up Comics and Starla & Sons, in addition to groups visiting from Wesleyan, Skidmore, and Emerson. Following that, comedian Brody Stevens will be performing at 9:30 p.m. with a special appearance from Brown alum Jordan Carlos ’03. (Fun fact: he’s been on Guy Code and The Colbert Report. Jealous.) Brody Stevens, who hails from the San Fernando Valley, got his own show, Brody Stevens: Enjoy It! on Comedy Central after its success as a series of shorts on HBO.
If you’re still looking for more laughs on Saturday, not to worry. The day kicks off with a panel on breaking into the industry at 3 p.m. featuring various comedians, including alums Chris Duffy ’09 (You’re the Expert), Caroline Martin ’11 (The PIT), Max Godnick ’13 (CMT), and, again, Jordan Carlos. At 7 p.m., more student groups will be performing including Brown’s IMPROVidence and Out of Bounds. Finally, 9:30 p.m. will bring The Stepfathers, a premier group of veteran improvers from NYC, to the stage.
The Eventbrite page, where you get your tickets, will go live at 11:59 p.m. on April 1. And guess what? All the events are free.
