Monday, September 22:

Event: The (Dis)United Kingdom: The UK after the Referendum

A discussion led by Mark Blyth, Eoin McGuirk and Fiora MacPherson on the recent vote in Scotland to remain a part of the UK and the effects of the decision.

Event: Tales From a Journalist’s Visits to Other Planets: Ken Auletta Lecture
Time: 5:30 p.m.
Location: MacMillan 117

A talk delivered by Ken Auletta, a New Yorker columnist and author of five national bestselling non-fiction books. A reception and book-signing follows.

Event: Guantanamo Bay Teach-In
Time: 7 – 8.30 p.m.
Location: List 110

Presentations by two professors and one post-doctoral fellow will discuss the problematic, ongoing existence of the US military base in Guantanamo Bay. A Q&A and discussion groups will follow.

Event: Students on Israel and Palestine: Perspectives on the Gaza War
Time: 7 – 9.00 p.m.
Location: Petteruti Lounge

Students with various connections to the situation in Gaza will be a part of a panel discussing recent events. Also moderated by students, the event hopes for a big emphasis on Q&A.

Event: IC and GISP Info Dinner
Time: 7.00 p.m.
Location: The Underground

If you’re considering making your own concentration, class, or credit-earning internship, come and learn about the processes from those who know all about it. Plus, food.

Thursday, September 25:

Event: From: RISD in Rome European Honors Program opening reception
Time: 6-7:30 p.m.
Location: Woods-Gerry Gallery (62 Prospect St.)

Thursday marks the opening night of the newest RISD exhibit, a showcase of work from the school’s long-tenured abroad program in Rome.

Event: Sweeney Todd
Time: 8:00 p.m. (runs until October 5th, Thursday to Saturday at 8, Sunday 3:00 p.m.)
Location: Leeds Theatre

The classic and creepy Steven Sondheim musical is reimagined by Curt Colombus, Art Director of Trinity Rep, and Lizzy Callas ’15. Tickets are $7 for students and booking ahead is recommended!

Friday, September 26:

Event: PW Presents: Waxwing
Time: 8:00 p.m. (also Saturday at 2 and 8.00 p.m.)
Location: PW Upspace

Written and directed by Evan Silver ’16, Waxwing is about the Sea, the Sun, the Boy, and the Bird. (We don’t know more because there isn’t a Wikipedia page yet.)

Saturday, September 27:

Event: Brown vs Harvard Football
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Location: Brown Stadium

Hopefully you’re already aware that this weekend is our big fall homecoming game! (If not, you’re probably not alone because it’s a sports thing.) It’s a blackout so tailgate heavily wear black clothes and boo Harvard support our team. Fireworks after the game!

Event: A Night on College Hill Semi-Formal
Time: 10:00 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Location: Pembroke Field

The Class Board and Greek Council are co-hosting a semi formal, free and open to all undergrads with ID. It’s a pretty sweet deal and another reason to be thankful for going to Brown during 250 celebrations: free food, live band, and a photobooth!!

Sunday, September 28:

Event: Thayer Street Art Festival
Time: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: Angell through Cushing

A block party on our favourite street where local artists and artisans will show their work, food vendors will sell yummy goods, and musicians will play their music!
