Event: The High Line, Supergentrification and the Street

Tuesday, September 29

Event: Fall 2015 Tech Careers Fair
Time: 12:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Location: Sayles

Tech employers looking for computer scientists and developers will be here scooping out the future Bill Gates. Happy coding! (As a senior Philosophy concentrator, I am jealous of people who can attend this event. I’m also available for dates.)

Event: Farm Fresh Rhode Island Benefit Night
Time: 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Location: Flatbread

A portion of the proceeds from pizza bought this night will go towards Farm Fresh RI.

Event: IFF Presents: Screening of The Hunting Ground + Panel
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: Granoff Auditorium

IFF and React to Film are cohosting this screening of The Hunting Ground, a documentary on sexual assault on U.S. campuses and institutional cover up. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, September 30

Event: Fall 2015 General Careers Fair
Time: 12:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Location: Sayles

No one is looking forward to this event but I am sure we’ll all see each other there, fellow seniors. May the odds be ever in your favor! (Also, there’s a LinkedIn photo booth in case you need to curate your grown up Facebook account). More information on prepping for finding your future is available here.

Thursday, October 1

Event: Seeing Signs of Life: Exploring the Red Plant
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: Flatbread

The Science Underground brings us this lecture by Brown professor John Mustard about possible life on Mars. Plus, “refreshments” will be available (which must mean pizza). Free pizza and aliens!

Event: Free Advance Screening of Suffragette
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: Granoff Auditorium

BMP, the Creative Arts Council, and Focus Features have joined together to bring us this early and free (!) screening Suffragette, which stars Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, and Meryl Streep as leaders of the early feminist movement. So, awesome women playing awesome women. Reserve your seat here.

Event: Sock & Buskin presents: The Seagull
Time: 8:00 p.m. (also October 2, 3, 8 – 10 at same time, and October 4 and 11 at 2:00 p.m.)
Location: Leeds Theatre

This Chekhov play has been called “one of the greatest events in the history of Russian theatre and one of the greatest new developments in the history of world drama.” You can get tickets here, and freshman and transfers get in free on Thursdays!

Friday, October 2

Event: Fall Outerspace Festival
Time: 2:00 p.m.
Location: PW

“Outerspace” here is just a play on the PW’s “upspace” and “downspace.” (It took me a second, too). So come watch some poets, musicians, actors, writers, and other types of performers do what they do best in the beautiful outerspace of the PW. (If you’re a performer looking to show what you’ve got, you can apply to do so until September 30th — check the event link for more details).

Event: Brown Taiwan Society Presents: Nightmarket 2015
Time: 6:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Sayles

Dinner and a show! A wide range of Asian foods will available, accompanied by performances by student groups. Tickets will be 50 cents and available at the door.

Event: Brown Concert for Climate Action
Time: 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Location: Main Green

Brown emPower has put together this very cool event to raise awareness about climate change and how we can take action. Student bands, as well as our Spring Weekend go-to What Cheer? Brigade, will be performing!

Saturday, October 3

Event: Rhode Island Youth Summit on the Environment 2015
Time: 10:00 a.m.
Location: Wilson

High school and college students from all over the state will work together during this conference on environmental issues. You can register here.

Event: Starla & Sons: New Year, New You
Time: 10:00 p.m.
Location: List 120

An improv comedy show! Improvisation means we can’t give much more of a description of what will happen, other than: it will be funny!!

Sunday, October 4

Event: Super Cool Water Pong Tournament
Time: 5:00 p.m.
Location: Kasper Multipurpose Room

The Table Tennis club is hosting this truly super cool event — not only can you actually soberly improve on your party moves, the winners get prizes like free Avon tickets.
