Chicken Finger Friday gets a lot of love around campus, and it’s clear why. The scent of fried golden deliciousness permeates Pembroke every week. But what about Mustard Green Monday? Turnip Tuesday? Or Watercress Wednesday?
Options in the dining halls when it comes to fruits and veggies can be limited and may leave you wanting more. Students who wish to add some local flavor and nutritional variety to their diets have the opportunity to sign up for the Brown Market Share Program this fall.
The Market Shares program provides a way for locally sourced and sustainably grown produce to find its way into the pantries and cupboards of members of the Brown community. They offer weekly shares of food distributed for a cost that is more reasonable than the grocery store equivalent. Bread, meat, dairy and eggs are available from a variety of Rhode Island farmers, in addition to fruits and veggies.
Farmer’s market quality without the price, BMSP is affordable and flexible. There are a limited number of reduced-cost shares that are available to those who are eligible. Sign-ups for a fall market share with BMSP are now open and the deadline to sign up is Wednesday, September 21st at 11:59 PM.
Aside from the week of Thanksgiving (Nov. 24), the program runs from Sept. 29th-Dec. 8th, 10 weeks in total.
