One of the most beloved spring sports is having one of its biggest games of the season in front of its home town crowd. You know what this means? This means you have to cheer your hearts out. Because they’re your fellow classmates. And because we don’t like Yale.

A new study has found that fans approve of pitchers avenging teammates by beaning batters.

The athletics department is gettin’ cray this week. In case you haven’t heard, Jack Hayes was appointed the next athletic director at Brown. This is us pretending that most of you care about the man behind the curtain. We know. You just want to watch your fellow classmates beast other teams. Here are your opportunities to do so this weekend:

Friday, April 6

W. tennis takes on the Tigers at 2 p.m.
Softball also plays at 2 p.m., against the Big Red. So who do you hate more, Princeton or Cornell?

Saturday, April 7

W. tennis takes to the courts again at noon against Penn.
Baseball and softball both have to defend their home turf against Princeton at 12:30pm.

Sunday, April 8

Baseball versus the Tigers at noon.
If any of you happen to have a car, w. golf will be hosting the Brown Invitational at the Rhode Island Country Club.

The lacrosse squads, among other sports, will be battling it out in foreign woods this weekend. Remember to cheer for them in your hearts.

Fun fact: Did you know that Cubby used to sport a pair of pants? Why would you want to steal Cubby’s pants? Why did Cubby have pants in the first place? Why does Cubby exist in the first place? None of this makes any sense. But we love Cubby anyway. You know why? Because he gets everyone to cheer their hearts out by pumping his arms and clapping and doing other gestures we can’t always understand! Cubby wants to see you at these home events this weekend:*

W. tennis aces Stony Brook at 5 p.m. The match will most likely be inside due to rain.

Saturday, March 17
M. tennis gets up early to take on Stony Brook at 10 a.m. This match might be outside because Saturday is forecasted to be sunny.
Gymnastics vaults over Southern Connecticut at 1 p.m.

Sunday, March 18
W. lacrosse rips twine against Quinnipiac at 1 p.m.

Your other not-as-cute-as-Cubby Bears will be roaming around other school’s territories. Cheer for them in your hearts.

Women's lacrosse brings in the spring this weekend with its home opener.

In case you haven’t noticed the nice weather, or don’t know to “spring forward” this weekend due to Daylight Saving Time, we have news for you: it’s spring! And what better way to enjoy the sun than to cheer on the women’s lacrosse team? (Don’t actually answer this question.) Anyway, here are the two opportunities this weekend you have to show your fellow classmates how much you love them as they entertain you with their athleticism:

Saturday, March 10

Women’s lacrosse takes on the Tigers at 1 p.m. in its home opener.

Sunday, March 11

Gymnastics will vault and high beam and such against Cornell at 1 p.m.

This is the height of the transition from winter to spring sports, so many teams won’t be competing this weekend (the baseball and softball teams are already taking a break? What?). But the men’s lacrosse team needs some help, so cheer for them in your hearts.

Because winter sports are winding down their regular seasons and the spring Bears are awakening slowly from their season-long slumber, there aren’t many home games this weekend.

Both hockey squads will be elsewhere this weekend, with the women’s ice hockey team taking on No. 3 Cornell in the playoffs. It is the first time since 2006 that the squad has made it to the post-season. This is why we cheer. [Read more →]

M. lacrosse will joyfully start its season with an exhibition game Saturday against the Iroquios U19 team.

Since it will be a long weekend and many of you won’t be on campus, not many home games are scheduled for this weekend. But today, National Lacrosse Hall of Fame player and renowned Native American speaker and activist, Oren Lyons is giving a talk about the cultural and spiritual role of lacrosse in Native communities at 4pm in the Granoff Center. It sounds cool to all you anti-sports people, right? Non-violent and all that jazz? But if you’re the type that enjoys watching sports more than talking about them, here are all the weekend home games:

Friday, Feb. 17

M. ice hockey drops its gloves and fights Harvard at 7pm. Go simply because you don’t like Harvard.
W. basketball definitely does not drop the ball against the Crimson at 7pm. Go simply because the women’s basketball team is better than the hockey team.

W. ice hockey takes on the No. 3 Big Red at 7pm. It’s the team’s annual “Pink at the Rink” event!
W. basketball rumbles with the Lions, also at 7pm. There isn’t any special event going on. The squad is just a lot more ballin’ than the women’s hockey team.

Saturday, Feb. 11

Don’t let the fluffy white stuff that’s supposed to be falling from the sky stop you from coming to these matchups. Bears are supposed to be hibernating. But Brown Bares Bears are better than that. [Read more →]

The wrestling squad has two home conference matches this weekend, and is looking for its third straight win.

You think Brown sports teams are a bit boring, don’t you? That’s the underlying assumption, right? After all, The Herald ran a series about how we’re “Underdog U.”  But maybe we’re all just really attending the wrong sports. Women’s basketball coach Jean Marie Burr won her 300th game last week against Dartmouth, and the wrestling and men’s tennis teams are racking up some impressive wins. Maybe you’ll cheer them on this weekend, or maybe you’ll stick with the typical hockey. Here’s a quick schedule of Bruno’s home matches this weekend:

Friday, Feb. 3

M. hockey looks to stay in the playoff picture with a win over Clarkson at 7pm.

But if hockey’s not your thing, m. basketball will be battling Princeton next door at the Pizz., also at 7pm.

And then, if you get bored watching tall dudes run up and down a court, you can head to the indoor tennis courts in the Pizz to watch w. tennis against PC at 8pm.

It’s a brand new semester. Which means that, while it’s time to go buy and sell your classes and wait in long mail room package lines to get boxes of books you know you probably won’t end up actually reading, you actually have plenty of time. Which means you and all those friends you need to catch up with can come out to cheer on your fellow Bears in various sporting events.Here are all the home games this weekend:

Friday, Jan. 27

Women’s ice hockey takes on the Big Green at 7 pm. The team is currently .500 after going 3-2-2 over winter break. They are currently in eighth place, the last playoff spot. This is a team that only won three games all season last year.
Men’s basketball also battles the Big Green at 7 pm. Unlike the female icers, the break didn’t treat the b-ballers to kindly. They went 1-6. [Read more →]
