TONIGHT: Solidarity vigil for Abdulhadi Al Khawaja

Head over to the Main Green tonight at 6 p.m. to participate in a vigil for Bahraini human rights activist Abdulhadi Al Khawaja. Falsely imprisoned for life over a year ago by the Bahraini government for taking part in a pro-democracy marches, Al Khawaja is on a hunger strike that is into its 10th week. Media exposure and international outcry  is part of what is keeping Al Khawaja alive, and tonight’s vigil will raise awareness of the continued abuse of human rights, violence against peaceful protesters, and false arrests of activists in Bahrain and the world over misfortunes that Al Khawaja is fighting to end.

Al Khawaja’s plight is especially relevant to Brown students because his daughter, Maryam, was a Fulbright Fellow here in 2009 and served as an Arabic TA. Both she and her father are members of the Brown community, so come out to the Main Green tonight at 6 p.m. and show your support for Abdulhadi Al Khawaja!
