Eating healthy in college can be hard. There are only so many times you can pick through the salad bar in the Ratty or slurp a smoothie in Poppy’s (have we determined if this exists yet?) without wanting to just give up and grab a spicy with. Luckily, there is a solution to be found. If you missed the sign up for Brown Market Shares Program (BMSP) in 2015, there is another opportunity to join this semester.

Market Shares is an initiative that connects Brown students and faculty with weekly shares of local and sustainably-grown produce. In addition to yummy fruits and vegetables, there are also eggs, dairy, meat, and bread from producers and farmers across Rhode Island. Sample shares this spring might include sweet potatoes, butternut squash, kale, and carrots.

Interested in eating local/healthy/fresh but never found the time/money/supplies? Want to put less effort into grocery shopping? Want to finally seem like you “have it all together” (i.e. talk about cooking)? Look no further: the Brown Market Shares Program has you covered yet again. But act quickly: sign ups for Fall 2015 close Sunday, September 13th at 11:59 pm.

BMSP provides a bundle of fresh, locally-grown produce to students, faculty, and staff each week from September 24th to December 3rd, excluding the week of Thanksgiving. A sample share might include carrots, apples, fennel, and even (the trendsetter) kale. Shares can be picked up right on campus at Hillel, and you can sign up for additional shares of dairy, meat, and eggs as well. For more information on signing up, pricing, and pick up, check out their FAQs. As the saying goes: “Buy a meal credit, and eat for a day. Buy a market share, and eat for the next ten weeks excluding the week of Thanksgiving.” The answer is clear: sign up today and don’t be left disappointed at the Ratty salad bar again.
