BlogDH’s Fifth Annual Costume Contest: Results

Halloween is over, and of course we’re all feeling the withdrawal. No more slathering fake blood on our bodies, or getting to wear wings and top hats, or bonding with random students on the street because you like each others costumes. But for one last Halloween piece of Halloween fun, Blog brings you the results to this year’s costume contest. We’ve gotten some excellent submissions, and, as promised, our overall winner will be featured on our Facebook page’s cover photo all week. Check them out below:

The Ivy Film Festival is coming April 6 – 12, and you could win an all-access pass

This year’s Ivy Film Festival will be held April 6 – 12. The festival is one of the largest student-run film festivals in the world, held annually for a week each spring. Last year, IFF brought us a variety of keynote speeches, panels, workshops, and screenings; there was a showing of The Grand Budapest Hotel, followed by a Skype Q&A with director Wes Anderson, a lecture by filmmaker Casey Neistat, an advanced screening of Neighbors, screenings of student selected films, and a panel on women in entertainment.

Now under a month out, IFF is in the midst of hosting a raffle for an all-access festival pass, good for all events for the winner and a friend. The raffle is open to everyone with a valid @brown.edu or @risd.edu email. To enter, share the IFF’s Facebook status as public by Wednesday, April 1.

IFF is also hosting an Instagram contest from Wednesday, March 18, through April 1. IFF is asking members of the Brown and RISD community to post an original photo that deals with a “movie moment from your life.” Valid submissions must be tagged with @ivyfilmfestival and #iff2015. The 1st place winner will win an all-access festival pass for them and a friend. Two 2nd place winners will receive Avon tickets for them and a friend. Three 3rd place winners will receive ~~IFF swag~~.

Brown Folk Festival seeks T-shirt artists

Even Marcus Aurelius thinks you should be getting involved with the Folk Festival.

If you’ve ever dreamed of growing up and becoming the person who designs the official 2013 Brown Folk Festival T-shirts, you’re finally in luck. This annual music celebration is being held on April 13th, and those organizing the festival are looking for a talented artist to help them out this year.

The requirements:

  • Pick ONE background color
  • Use up to TWO additional colors for the design itself
  • Include the terms “Brown Folk Festival” and “April 13”
  • Submit a Photoshop or Illustrator document, color-separated by layer
  • Submit to brownfolktee@gmail.com by March 23

If you’re feeling a little lost, go ahead and check out some past winners at the Brown Folk Festival website.

Folk yeah!

The BlogDailyHerald No Shave Movember contest has begun!

Gents (and ladies?), that month you’ve all been waiting for is back. To commemorate these 30 days of hairy goodness (which I still couldn’t really participate in even if I tried), we’ve created a contest.

The rules are simple:

1. At the end of the month, email us a photo of your clean-shaven self AND a shot of you with your (at least) month-old scruff. The winner will have his mug featured right here on December 1st for all of Brunonia to admire. (He also may or may not have the shaving of said facial hair posted on the blog.) Even better, he will win a limited edition BlogDailyHerald t-shirt.

2. If any of you want to be profiled for a three-part series on your No Shave November odyssey, email us with a brief explanation of your scruff-growing capabilities (photo evidence encouraged), and the Blog will in return profile your facial hair as it grows more and more out of control through the month of November!

Did you really read Morning Mail?: Draw a unicorn!

BlogDailyHerald rescued this gem from Sunday’s Morning Mail:

“Teams from CSCI 1320 and GISP 011 are working together to make the best interspecies love site on the World Wide Web today. We are holding a contest for the best graphic design (we’ll also accept hand-drawn sketches) of a unicorn and Bruno the Bear in bed together (the morning after). The contest winner will receive: 3 hugs, a chance to join our team, $50 cash, and other prizes not appropriate for us to list.”

Sounds promising. Submissions are due this Thursday at 11:59 PM to brumantic@gmail.com. You know you want them prizes…
