Game of the Week

Brown Men’s Ice Hockey Wins 5-1 over St. Lawrence

The Brown Men’s Ice Hockey Team (8-12-4, ECAC 6-10-1) halted a 5-game losing streak with its win, 5-1, against St. Lawrence (9-15-5, ECAC 5-11-1) and, in doing so, improved their positioning for the ECAC Hockey playoffs. Brown jumped out to an early lead and never let St. Lawrence recover. After David Brownschidle (’10) notched a goal 46 seconds into the match, the Brown front line continued to drill the St. Lawrence goalie with shots. The second period was a similar story to the first period as Brown outshot St. Lawrence 9-0. Brown finished the game outshooting St. Lawrence 36-34 in the rout of St. Lawrence. As the season comes to a close, the Brown Hockey Team is in a battle for one of the last spots that will confer the advantage of home ice in the ECAC playoffs. The loss against 8th seeded Clarkson (14-14-2, ECAC 8-9-1) hurt Brown in the standings, but a win against 7th seeded Quinnipiac (13-11-5, ECAC 6-8-4) next weekend could propel Brown up in the standings.

The Brown Men’s Basketball Team had a tumultuous weekend. The Men’s Team, on Saturday, dropped a game against Cornell, who was previously winless in Ivy League play, on the heels of an impressive victory against Columbia, led by the play of Sean McGonagill (’14). After McGonagill’s stunning 39-point performance against Columbia, which earned him the distinction of Ivy Player and Rookie of the Week, the Bears will expect similar results to top Ivy opponents Dartmouth (5-15, IVY 1-5; 2/11 @ Dartmouth; 7:00 PM) and Harvard (16-4, IVY 5-1; 2/12 @ Harvard 7:00 PM) this upcoming weekend. The Harvard Crimson team currently sits at the top of Ivy League Conference, only behind Princeton, and is yet to lose a game at home.
