Bears Maul Hoosiers; Volleyball Splits First Day of Brown Invitational

The men’s soccer team remains undefeated after beating 24th nationally ranked Indiana (2-3-0) tonight, 2-1! The Bears are now 3-0-2 this season.

Indiana jumped out to the early lead after senior goalie Paul Grandstrand fumbled the ball, allowing Indiana to easily put the ball in the net. The Bears came out and scored quickly in the second half, however, when sophomore mid-fielder Thomas McNamara stole the ball from a Hoosier defender and scored. The winning goal came with less than 8 minutes left in the game off the foot of junior forward Sean Rosa (who scored the only goal in the game against South Carolina in the Brown Soccer Classic, which allowed the Bears to advance to the championship and become co-champions).

Indiana could not come back from that deficit, even though with less than a minute left, after the ball went out of bounds and a Brown player went to retrieve it, they tried to speed the game up by taking the ball from a ball person and booting it onto the field. It didn’t really help them. They still lost.

Women’s volleyball (4-5) didn’t have the same spectacular results that the soccer team did. Although the Bears won their match against Holy Cross in only three sets, they eventually fell in a tough battle against URI in the fifth set (despite having led URI 2-1). Brown plays Central Connecticut State and Boston College tomorrow, at 2:30p.m. and 7:30p.m., respectively, at the Pizz. Be there to cheer them on!
