The C.W. approved plans to begin work on the pilot episode of The Carrie Diaries, a prequel to the popular HBO television series, Sex and the City.
Last spring, author Candace Bushnell, who wrote the original Sex and the City novel, released Summer and the City: A Carrie Diaries Novel, which follows Bradshaw during her summer after high school graduation as she makes plans to attend Brown.
Josh Schwartz, the creator of The O.C. and Gossip Girl, is taking the lead with the new series. A Providence native and Wheeler School graduate, Schwartz exaggerated and poked fun at Brown’s relaxed atmosphere in his other two popular shows.
In a season two episode of Gossip Girl, Blair Waldorf tells her friend Serena van der Woodsen that Brown is “an enclave of trustafarians and children of celebrities who major in drum circles and semiotics.” She constantly makes jokes that Serena will come back from Providence a vegan hippie, saying, “maybe you can get your hair dreadlocked while you’re there.” [Read more →]
