“Wow, I love that we can access Banner on this shiny doohickey!” “I know! Technology these days! But why did we have to go to the Gap to do this?”

After a brief extension due last week’s snow storm, today is finally the last day of shopping period. Hopefully by now you’ve narrowed down from the 20 classes you had in your cart at the start of the semester. If not, the deadline to add a classes without a fee is today at 5 p.m.

At 5 p.m. Banner will be taken down for an hour, at which point all course additions will require an instructor override and a $15 fee. The deadline to add a course with a fee, change from audit to credit, or switch between letter grade and S/NC, is Wednesday, February 18.

Happy last day of Shopping Period!

Sans Meal Plan: Blizzard Edition

IMG_0022

Hello and happy snow day! We hope you’re all still in your PJs, enjoying the fruits of Juno. In honor of the ridiculous amount of snow, we decided to make a ridiculously indulgent breakfast. Okay, maybe it should be called dessert, but you’re not my mom and you can’t tell me what to do!!!

What better way to pay homage to the snow than by dousing some Funfetti pancakes with flurry-like vanilla frosting and sprinkles? Below is the recipe, adapted from Tastes of Lizzy T’s.

(Makes 22 5″ pancakes, but we halved the recipe.)

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1⅓ cup white flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 box Pillsbury Funfetti cake mix
  • ⅓ cup canola oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 2⅓ cups milk
  • ⅓ cup sprinkles
  • Store-bought vanilla frosting (you could make your own if you’re feeling up to it!)

Shopping period extended due to Juno

In our second email recap in under an hour (wow!), we bring you news that shopping period has been extended until Wednesday, February 4. According to an email from Dean Mandel, some of which can be seen below, this is in order to accommodate students shopping classes that only meet on Mondays or Tuesdays. Screen Shot 2015-01-26 at 1.57.13 PM

The four-week deadline adding a course, as well as the grade option deadline, has remained unchanged and is Wednesday, February 18.

Breaking: Classes Canceled for 1/27 On Account Snowmageddon

Screen Shot 2015-01-26 at 1.02.15 PM

An email from Russell Carey has just been sent to the Brown community announcing all classes and operations to be canceled on Tuesday, January 27th. RISD has also canceled all classes. Juno marks the third storm in 40 years to prompt Brown to cancel a full day of classes. Despite 2014 being reported as the warmest year in recorded history, this upcoming blizzard is already being called “historic.”

A couple of things for you to keep in mind:

  • The Ratty will be the only dining hall open tomorrow, with hours from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • The Blue Room will close at 6 tonight, instead of it’s typical 9 p.m. closing.
  • Brown Public Safety and Medical Services will still be fully operational.
  • Report any power outages to 401 963-7800.

And a couple of words of advice from Blog:

  • Stay indoors.
  • Snuggle for warmth.
  • Stock up on food (Odwalla bars?).
  • Watch Juno all day.
  • Enjoy!

[Update: Libraries are closing at 8 p.m. tonight and will remain closed all day Tuesday.]
