New writer profiles: Welcome to the internet, Blog babies

A new semester brings new beginnings and, of course, new Blog writers. We’ve got a rambunctious crew this time around and we can’t wait to see what the new Blog Babies will bring to the proverbial table. They’re already writing up a storm, so be sure to keep an eye out for their new content! BlogDailyHerald presents to you our latest additions to the staff:

Jack Parker: Jack Parker (great name, right? such a “first-y last-y”) is the coolest Dad to be joining BlogDH this semester. Mr. Parker, as his kids’ friends call him, is currently a floating freshman, not having decided what to study. A lifelong New Yorker, he loves all New York sports teams, especially the Yankees (as a Boston native, it was painful for me to write that). A true “cool dad,” he has his finger on the pulse: he loves Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones, in addition to every Will Ferrell movie ever made. He plans on attending “Brown Only Karaoke” every week for the rest of the year.

-Lana del Foreplay

sashalandLana del Foreplay: To quote Shakespeare: “What’s in a name?” For Lana del Foreplay, the answer is everything. Dedicated to the study of all things sex-related throughout her time in college, Lana felt truly awakened after her semester in FemSex. When the opportunity to write Sextion came about, she could not resist the opportunity to embrace her inner Samantha Jones (not Carrie Bradshaw, she sucks). As a second semester senior, she may not know what she’s doing next year, but she does have plenty of jobs lined up (get it?). Despite her love of casual hook-ups and sex, she is still looking for someone to kiss under Soldiers Arch at midnight.

We have new writers! Meet the BlogBabies of Fall 2014

It’s the most wonderful time of the Fall semester – that’s right, it’s the time when the leaves start changing colors, the air gets crisper, and we welcome a brand new set of staff members to BlogDailyHerald.  We have added 11 new writers and 3 new creative team contributors to our squad, making it one of the largest classes of BlogBabies to date. In order to get them acquainted, we asked that they conduct interviews of one another. Read below to learn what makes each of them tick, what their coveted Blue Room muffin is, and of course, their favorite historical figure.

Taylor DeRosa ’16:  Let me introduce you to Taylor DeRosa, or Tazlor DeRosa, the name she wrote down on her SAT (three phone calls with CollegeBoard later and she’s here at Brown!). She hails from New Haven, Connecticut, about which “there’s nothing weird”… that she’s willing to put online, at least. One of Taylor’s many feats is having re-learned how to walk at age twelve. Not to mention being the best football player in all of New England, despite her many concussions. Taylor mostly loves cartoons, although Courage the Cowardly Dog is too scary for her. Her favorite cartoon is Scooby Doo; in fact, she has been Scooby for the past five Halloweens, following the tragic demise of her Mulan costume. Taylor has been through many highs and lows, from a night spent on a bench in JWW to being a proud one-time winner of Settlers of Catan. Here at Brown, Taylor spends her time Poller-Bearing, bringing Thai food to the theater, eating pot stickers in the night, giving life advice to her Meiklebabies, and pretending to be a pancake. Taylor’s favorite historical figure is Napolean, only because she didn’t think the world could handle her face photoshopped onto Jesus.

Hannah Silverman ’16:  If you’ve ever gone to the Blue Room and wondered, “Who is this ravishing woman serving me muffins?” look no further. It was Hannah Silverman, formerly known as the Patron Saint of Accidental Arson (ask her about it). A New York City native, Hannah Silverman excels at many things: photography, navigating public transportation, and doubting things. That said, she only just learned to ride a bicycle, so keep your admiration in check. If asked to name her greatest strength, Hannah might say it’s cooking. Tazlo Taylor DeRosa would say it is Hannah’s uncanny ability to seduce foreign men. At the moment, Hannah is preoccupied by the broken lightbulb in her bathroom, as she fears peeing in the dark. Hannah’s favorite historical figure is Marco Polo not because he is a famed explorer but because he is the namesake of her #1 fav game.

New Writer Profiles: We have Blog babies!

(BlogDH) New Writers

At the beginning of the semester, we took on a new set of writers to join our wonderful staff. As a first assignment, we had them learn about each other so you could effectively learn about all of them. As you can probably tell, we think they’re superheroes already. Enjoy.

Kate Storey-Fisher: New writer, Kate Storey-Fisher, refers to herself as a “first-year” student…apparently the word freshman is too “androcentric.” She is 19 years old, from San Francisco, and taller than an oompa loompa. While Kate is a Physics major, she is actually most passionate about Instagramming, Snapchatting, baking, Zumba-ing, photoshopping, hiking, and, as of two weeks ago, BlogDailyHeralding. From the West Coast, Kate isn’t quite used to the snow, so she wishes that she could fly to avoid slipping on ice and falling flat on her face on her way from Pembroke to Barus & Holley.

-Rebecca Steinberg

Joseph Frankel: Joseph Frankel, or JFranks, is not one of those “I’m cooler than you because I’m from New York City” kids. That said, he’s from the City and does think he’s pretty cool. This is probably because he speaks French, Japanese, and Hebrew on top of his native New York tongue—so don’t fux with him. Joseph is concentrating in Neuroscience, and his hobbies include WBRU, Shakespeare on the Green, playing the guitar, and trying every coffee house in Providence (the verdict: Blue State still takes it). He has three older brothers and a blind bichon named Ace, and he can lift his left leg behind his head (Joseph, not the dog). If Joseph could have any superpower, he would go Matilda and get telekinesis, the power of moving objects with his mind—mainly so he could sneakily float muffins out of the Blue Room.

-Kate Storey-Fisher

Katie Bright: Hailing from the mean streets of Manhattan’s Upper West Side, Katie Bright (known to friends and family as Khaki, KB, K-Bay, K-Baybay, and any variation thereof) couldn’t be happier to be joining the ranks of BlogDH. A renaissance woman, Katie’s interests include Urban Studies, ballet, collecting postcards, and the 1998 remake of Disney’s The Parent Trap starring Lindsay Lohan, which she knows by heart. When not serving the community in the Swearer Classroom Program, Kate loves to cook. But she has yet to recreate BuDS sweet potato fries, her favorite dish at Brown. Given the choice of any superpower, Katie would pick teleportation, so she could travel anywhere, including to her dream destination of Greece (a.k.a. the Lindsay Lohan of debtors).
