W. Hockey — Third Period Thriller

The women’s ice hockey team (2-3-2, ECAC 1-3-2) tied 1-1 with Clarkson (5-7-2, 3-0-1) to remain undefeated at home this season.

The game was mostly a defensive battle, remaining scoreless until the second half of the first period. With about eight minutes left, Clarkson seemed to score after the puck slid off of two sliding players. Both the puck and the players ended up in the net, but since the Clarkson player evidently kicked the puck in the net, the referee signaled that it was not a goal (much to the disappointment and irritation of the Golden Knight’s players).

But about three minutes later the puck did find its way into the back of Brown’s net, when Melissa Waldie beat goaltender Katie Jamieson ’13 glove side. Jamieson had an almost-115 minutes shut out streak broken with this goal. Jamieson and goaltender Aubree Moore ’14 had a combined shut-out streak of over 170 minutes of play.

With only five minutes left, the Bears found themselves down 1-0. It was the same with 1 minute left. And then 30 seconds.

And then with 22 seconds left, forward Laurie Jolin ’13 (with the help of forward tri-captain Erica Kromm ’11 and forward Vanessa Welton ’14) managed to pound one in, tying the game 1-1. After five minutes of overtime, the score remained the same.

Brown is back in action this afternoon at 4 p.m. against St. Lawrence at Meehan Auditorium. Be there for some more thrilling hockey!
