Free food digest: September 15, 2011

Eat free or dine trying: holy moly, there are a lot of food-based events today. For you free food foragers out there, you’ve hit the mother lode. If you can’t find a free dinner tonight, you’re certainly not trying hard enough.

Community Tea
3-5 pm
Petteruti Lounge, Faunce

Come today and make new staff and faculty members feel welcome! This event is sponsored in part by the Blue Room, which is very promising (danishes anyone?).

Dinner and TLC with Rabbi Rackover
5:30-7:30 pm

Heads up pescies/veggies/veegees: According to the event description, “all food will be vegan and organic when possible.” Also, who knew that Rabbi Rackover was, by night, a terrific home cook?

“A Panoply of Paper” Illustrated Lecture
6-7 pm
John Carter Brown Library

A lecture about paper? Far be it from us to promote our rival medium, but look kids, there are “free edibles”! Hopefully they won’t taste too much like cardboard.

Musical Forum Fall Schmooze!
6-8 pm
South Wayland Lounge

Interested in getting involved in musical theater at Brown? Come to mingle. Stay for the food…and maybe also the inevitable spontaneous eruptions of song and dance.

STAND Information Session
7-8 pm
Wilson Hall, Room 304

Join the Student Anti-Genocide Coalition tonight to learn about how to get involved. Also on the agenda: free Meeting Street cookies. Not to belittle the group’s cause or anything, but that last part is really big time.

Liberty in North Korea General Body Meeting
8-9 pm
Faunce, Room 229

Technically a beverage, rather than a foodstuff, Thai iced tea is one of the more obscure items we’ve seen listed in our free food adventures. Wikipedia tells us that other ingredients in the drink besides black tea include orange blossom water, crushed tamarind seeds and star anise. Intriguing.
