Last Call: Nicole Salvador

As the semester progresses at the speed of light, the senior class is beginning to make peace with that fateful day in May: Commencement. Until the class of 2015 leaves us, BlogDH wants to highlight all the interesting things they’ve been up to. To this end, we’re (re)starting the series Last Call, which features seniors reflecting on their experiences at Brown. Each featured senior will tag another senior for the next installment. Find this year’s other “Last Call” chain here and our RISD “Last Call” chain here.

Before + After

People might know you as… the girl who used to work at Mama Kim’s/wearing various articles of clothing made of neoprene.

In my time at Brown, you are most proud of… my friends. They’re weird and quirky–sometimes we just watch old music videos and eat junk food so yeah we’re really random.~  But in all seriousness, they’re so smart and kind and I’m lucky to have them. Also, someone once texted me saying I reminded them of the girl in “Makes Me Proud” by Drake and Nicki, which for proudest moments is a close second.

On Friday night, we might find you… Hula hooping at Todd Baker and Jamie Marsicano’s house.

Three things you wish you knew freshman year…

  • The concept of de-colonial love/people who say they have a thing for Asians should be slapped silly.
  • Work out harder, because you will one day need the stamina to dance with Big Freedia.
  • They’ll bring in fancy washing machines, so cherish your time getting free laundry messing with the coin slot while you can.

Ratty vs. V-Dub… You can eat in the V-dub, but is napping, crying, and awkwardly grinding whilst eating chicken fingers as good? No.

The best thing you did in your time at Brown was… work with Kaya Collaborative in the Philippines last summer.

One thing you wish you had done at Brown is… studied abroad in Brazil.

After graduation, you plan to… figure out a way back to Southeast Asia and/or work in #socialinnovation.

What’s the hardest class you’ve taken at Brown? If you could do it over, would you still take it? Well, I took everyone’s advice and enrolled in Intro to Neuroscience freshman year, but I dropped it before the first midterm so I couldn’t tell you. But I would take Kubrick by Professor Rambuss every semester.

What’s the most rewarding extracurricular you’ve been a part of? Why? I don’t do any extracurriculars because I work a lot.  But being self-reliant and having a perspective on class I feel that a bunch of Brown students don’t have or are uncomfortable talking about is really rewarding to me.

One piece of advice for underclassmen? Go to Modern Diner in Pawtucket and order the Mozambique lobster grits if you need some self care lovin’.

Todd’s question: How would you summarize your Brown experience in one Drake quote? “Somewhere between psychotic and iconic

Who are you tagging next? Kat da Silva

Nicole’s question for Kat: If your aura had a color, scent, and taste, what would they be?
