Welcome to/back to campus! Here are the events you’ll want to factor into your shopping schedule.
Wednesday, September 9
Event: Effective Interviewing
Time: 12:00 p.m.
Learn how to prepare for any upcoming job or internship interviews. This workshop will cover the basics of making a good first impression and how to answer tough questions from employers. (Seniors, take notes.)
Event: Screening of M. Night Shyamalan’s, “The Visit”
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: Granoff Auditorium
Brown Motion Pictures will host an advanced screening of M. Night Shyamalan’s latest thriller, “The Visit.” Reserved tickets are already sold out, and if you have a ticket you must get to Granoff between 6:30 and 6:45. At 6:45 p.m., the auditorium will be open to students who don’t have tickets, on a first come first served basis.
Event: LGTBQ Welcome Dinner
Time: 9:00 p.m.
The LGTBQ Center and Queer Alliance welcome new LGBTQ students and allies to Brown by hosting a dinner that will introduce offered resources, programs, and groups.
Thursday, September 10
Event: WBRU’s Collegepalooza
Time: 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Location: Waterplace Park
WBRU, our local radio station run by Brown Students, hosts a day of free music, food, and giveaways for college students in the area. Companies such as Flatbread Pizza, Whole Foods, Dunkin’ Donuts, and more will be on deck with free things and the band Phases will perform.
Event: First Readings: The New Jim Crow Lecture
Time: 4:00 p.m.
Location: Smith-Buonanno 106
A panel of activists and scholars will discuss topics from The New Jim Crow, the Class of 2019‘s assigned book for the summer, as well as how those topics intersect with campus life.
Event: Student Activities Fair
Time: 7:00 p.m – 10:00 p.m.
Whether you’re new to Brown and looking for groups to join, or returning to campus and looking to switch it up, come to the activities fair to hear from the 250 student organizations on campus. Not to mention, you’ll get to meet the writers and editors of your new favorite blog.
Saturday, September 12
Event: Lawrence at the Rhode Island Seafood Festival
Time: 2:00 p.m.
Location: India Point Park
Admission to the 5th annual Rhode Island Seafood Festival is $5. It’s well worth it to see Lawrence, the newly renamed project from frontman and Brown alum, Clyde Lawrence ’15.
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: Salomon Hall

Sunday, September 13
Event: Try Rugby Day
Time: 3:00 p.m.
Location: Outside of the OMAC
The Brown University Women’s Rugby team became varsity last year, and promptly proceeded to win the Ivy Rugby Championships. If you’re interested in joining the team or learning more about the sport, play with them on Sunday. There’s no experience necessary.
