THANK YOU BCA!
First off, holy shit. An absolute hats off to BCA, even if we aren’t going to be the site of The Postal Service’s 10-year reunion. According to its site, this year’s Spring Weekend will have A-Trak and Kendrick Lamar headlining what might go down as the greatest Spring Weekend of all time (sorry, Bruce/Bono/Bob). A quick breakdown of the acts:
2013 is the year of Kendrick. In a landscape filled with talented 20-something MCs, he has managed a meteoric rise to prominence as modern hip-hop’s posterchild. After the success of his first proper album (good kid, m.A.A.d. city, but you already knew that) the future is bright for Kendrick. Little did we know it would involve a stop on College Hill. That BCA pinned down one of the hottest acts in the country right now is nothing short of a miracle.
Besides, “Swimming Pools (Drank)” is a perfect description of our Spring Weekend.
Did he make it big on a remix of a Yeah Yeah Yeahs song? Maybe. But even if you’re a devout member of the cult of Karen O, you can appreciate A-Trak’s beats. The Canadian DJ is the youngest-ever winner of the DMC World DJ Championship (at 15!) and has been at it ever since. You know the “Heads Will Roll” remix. You probably have heard his remix of Martin Solveig’s “The Night Out” too. But you might not know about A-Trak’s other extensive collaborations, including with Kanye (“Stronger”) and Mark Foster and Kimbra (“Warrior”). Note: Converse actually paid for them to play together. I love supergroups. Oh yeah, and he’s also one half of Duck Sauce.
