If you are stuck in Providence this weekend and are somehow getting bored with drinking and watching Fox News by the time Monday rolls around, I’ve got just the ticket for you. This weekend boasts two Brass Festivals: Honk on Saturday and Sunday throughout Massachusetts, and Pronk! on Monday in Providence, are bringing over a dozen brass bands of international renown to our region, including Providence faves What Cheer? Brigade. Bear with me while I explain why you should care.
Nothing could be further from your high school brass band.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend so far, whether you’re relaxing, catching up with family, or even partying your asses off visiting a friend at another school. Campus has been pretty quiet, but I can’t say there aren’t pros to having much of the student body away. Here are some things that have made this long weekend a staycation of its own:
1) No lines in the Blue Room, Ratty, or Jo’s.
2) Availability of every type of machine and weight equipment in the Nelly.
3) No wait for Sunday brunch at Loui’s.
4) Unlimited access to the comfortable orange couches above the Blue Room (to read in? No, to nap in).
5) Vacant laundry machines.
Long story short, we miss you guys, but we’re doing alright here, too.

Ah, yes. It’s that time of year again: Fall Weekend, that lovely three-day holiday where we steadfastly refuse all attempts to honor that one European dude despite the fact that we’re totally taking the day off anyways. Try explaining that one to your friends back home.
Politics aside, how will YOU be filling the hours during this most historic of breaks?
The weather gods have spoken. This
Columbus Day Weekend Fall Weekend forecast couldn’t encapsulate Providence’s erratic fall weather patterns any better. If you’re planning on hanging out in PVD, you’ll maintain a balanced work to play ratio this weekend: Friday and Monday shall be days for frolicking and apple picking; Saturday and Sunday shall be days for studying and Orgo-ing. Sounds like both a productive and enjoyable weekend. Do it big.
